You’ve had a blast playing Wizard over the past few weeks and are now searching for something new?
Well, consider that search officially over!
Our Game of the Month promises exciting matches—anytime, anywhere.
And guess what? It only consists of 33 cards.
All the key information is so compact that you can easily write them in Braille on every card—in just about any way you like.
With or without number sign, contracted or uncontracted, and you can even add more details without a problem.
Now, I’ll give you a brief rundown of the most important elements of the game.
I, for one, had an absolute blast testing it!
It’s all about strategies and, above all, what you do when those strategies get thwarted. And trust me – they will be!
The game The Fox in the Forest is played with 33 cards. Each of the two players is dealt 13 cards at the start.
The remaining 7 cards are taken out of play and placed on a draw pile, so you never know exactly which cards your opponent might have.
The cards themselves are divided into three groups of 11 cards each:
– Keys 1 to 11
– Bells 1 to 11
– Moons 1 to 11
At the beginning of the game, one suit is declared trump, meaning you can win a trick with a trump card even if its value is lower.
On each turn, both players choose a card from their hand and attempt—depending on their strategy—to win or lose the trick. At the end of the round, you get points for the number of tricks you’ve won:
– 0 to 3 tricks: 6 points
– 4 tricks: 1 point
– 5 tricks: 2 points
– 6 tricks: 3 points
– 7 to 9 tricks: 6 points
– More than 9 tricks? 0 points! If you get too greedy, you go home empty-handed!
A game typically lasts three to four rounds.
Now, you might think this all sounds a bit dull.
But not at all!
Because I haven’t even mentioned the most important part yet:
All odd-numbered cards have decisive special abilities—and of course, I won’t keep those from you!
– 1 – The Swan:
Allows you to lead the next trick even if you lost the previous one.
– 3 – The Fox:
A highly valuable card that lets you choose a new trump suit.
– 5 – The Woodcutter:
Lets you swap one of your cards with the top card of the draw pile.
– 7 – The Treasure:
Why is it a treasure? Because for every treasure you hold, you get 1 Bonus point.
– 9 – The Witch:
You win the trick if you’re the only one who played a Witch.
– 11 – The Monarch:
Forces your opponent to play either a 1 or the highest card of the currently led suit. Now that’s a real power move!
