On June 22nd, 1952, Louis Braille, to celebrate the century of his death, was transferred to the Panthéon in the heart of Paris. Today, few people know that Louis Braille is resting in the Panthéon, with other great figures such as Voltaire, Victor Hugo, and many others.
To celebrate the 70th anniversary of his transfer, a celebration is planned in Paris on Wednesday, June 22nd, 2022: “The comeback of Mister Braille”.
The objective of this celebration is to draw attention to visual impairment, to explain our needs to public officials and the media while promoting the braille to the widest possible audience.
The celebration is co-organized by:
• the Institut National des Jeunes Aveugles (INJA): The French national school for the young blind, where Louis Braille was a student and a teacher,
• the Confédération française pour la promotion Social des Aveugles et Amblyopes (CFPSAA): An organization that gathers the main associations of visually impaired people in France (Association Valentin Haüy, Voir Ensemble, FAF, apiDV, etc.),
• the World Blind Union (WBU).

Tomorrow, on June 22nd (10-18 CEST)!
On 22. of June 2022 we are celebrating the 70th anniversary of the honouring of Louis Braille by the Pantheonization – interment of his remains in the Panthéon (Le retour de Monsieur Braille au Panthéon).
One hundred years after his death, his ashes were transferred from Coupvray, the town where he lived, to the Paris cemetery, the resting place of many French historians and world greats.
Short account of the 1952 event was preserved and is available on Youtube in Helen Keller In Paris To Honor Louis Braille, 1952.
During the ceremony of Louis Braille’s burial at the Panthéon, Helen Keller, who came from the USA, also spoke and paid her respects to his work.
